Maryland SNPhA Members Join Together to Serve Community

NDMU SNPhA held their annual health block party at the 29thStreet Community Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The goal of the health block party was to provide educational and health resources to a Baltimore community. University of Maryland SNPhA members participated at the event as well. Dental students from the Student National Dental Association, The Power Project, The J.R Wood Group, and DMG Food Store/Salvation Army were able to assist with the event as well. The NDMU SNPhA members provided education through poster boards, interactive games, and demonstrations on the following topics: HIV/AIDS, diabetes, nutritional eating, OTC medication safety, immunizations, and chronic kidney disease. SNPhA members also provided blood pressure screenings. The Student National Dental Association provided health fair attendees with oral health screenings and demonstrated proper teeth brushing techniques. Power Project is an organization with an initiative to maximize prevention, access, care & treatment of HIV and Hepatitis C and they provided guests with free HIV and Hepatitis C screenings. The J.R Wood Group is an organization who provides life insurance coverage and free seminars on this topic to the community. DMG Food Store representatives provided nutrition information and free fruit cups to the health block party attendees. In addition to all of the educational activities at the health block party there was also a DJ, raffle prizes, a photo booth, and other fun activities like coloring and jump ropes.
