Chinyere A. Onyirimba
Bridging the Gap Chair
Chinyere Onyirimba is a fourth-year student pharmacist attending Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy (NDMU) in Baltimore, Maryland. She believes that service and volunteerism is at the core of the work she wants to provide as a future pharmacist; attributing this form of engagement to rebuilding and equipping marginalized communities with the tools needed to thrive. These principles were absorbed at an early age when she was introduced to the world of pharmacy through the lens of a young woman from Hampton University School of Pharmacy. Through this mentorship, Chinyere realized that her passion for health-sciences could be fashioned to provide education and other methods of community outreach to the underserved. During her adolescence, she grew in her purpose and worked for Teens With a Purpose, a youth empowerment organization which promotes peer leadership, civic engagement, and social change.
Chinyere’s participation in the Student National Pharmaceutical Association stemmed from her exposure to the organization on Virginia Commonwealth University’s campus, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Health Preparation and Professional Science. She noted how the organization’s mission closely related to her personal values and knew it was an organization she needed to be a part of. Upon entering NDMU, SNPhA was the first organization she joined. Her passion for building her SNPhAM community at NDMU and serving the community of Baltimore led her to serve as Chapter President for two years, and assist in the planning of numerous fundraisers, immunization clinics, health fairs, and community events. She is proud of all that the NDMU chapter has been able to accomplish in their short history.
While SNPhA is a large part of Chinyere’s professional development she is also an active member of Phi Lambda Sigma – Delta Beta Chapter serving as the 2018-2019 Historian and is an active member of NDMU’s chapters of SSHP and ASHP-ASP. Additionally, Chinyere loves to stay busy and works as a CVS Intern and as a Clinical Pharmacy Intern in the Adult Inpatient Pharmacy at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. In her spare time, which can seem to some like little to none, she enjoys binge-watching various series and movies on Netflix, relaxing, spending time with loved ones, exercising, and traveling.
Chinyere is ecstatic to have the opportunity to serve as the 2019-2020 National Bridging the Gap Chair. She is committed to assisting the National President, Darian Allen, and members of SNPhA in the growth of SNPhA’s L.E.G.A.C.Y, further creating opportunities for members to grow and develop long-lasting relationships and networks through partnerships with the National Pharmaceutical Association’s New Practitioner Network and through Bridging the Gap events at regional and national conferences. She believes community is key and hopes to help members find their community in our ‘SNPhAM’ as we become leaders in the profession of pharmacy.
