Alexa M. Swingle
Operation Immunization Chair
Alexa Swingle is a fourth-year pharmacy student at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy in Columbia, SC. She spends her free time chasing after her puppy, Teddy. Her favorite pastimes include SNPhA, sleeping, hanging out with friends, and binging through various shows on Netflix.
She started her journey with SNPhA as a freshman pre-pharmacy student because SNPhA’s mission of serving the underserved really resonated with her. That year, she attended the Regions I & II Conference at the University of Georgia, where she discovered that SNPhA was more than a student organization; it was a family and a community that was making a difference in their communities.
She went on to become her chapter president, but perhaps the most impactful thing she’s been able to do so far in SNPhA was her participation in Prescription for Service. She and another member from her chapter created a 6-week program for kids in low-income government housing to teach them about various health topics and pharmacy, which they named, Carolina Cares for Kids. They continued to grow this program throughout their P3 year, where they trained younger students on how to continue the program so that they could leave a lasting legacy of serving the underserved.
Alexa has been a Shot@Life Champion for 3 years, and has attended the Shot@Life Summit for the last 2 years, where she has been able to advocate for vaccinations for children in developing countries. Alexa is eager to continue to grow SNPhA’s relationship with Shot@Life, as well as to help debunk myths about vaccines to assist in the eradication of vaccine-preventable diseases. She is excited to work with SNPhA chapters across the United States to aid in providing immunizations to populations that are in desperate need of them. She hopes to help all SNPhA Chapters and members leave their own lasting LEGACY of service.
