Region III Facilitator
Jamie Thompson (Jamalena) is a Houston native and 4 th year pharmacy student at Texas Southern University COPHS. She is a non-traditional student who owned two businesses prior to deciding to fulfill her dream of obtaining a pharmacy degree. She enrolled at Texas Southern and during her first SNPhA meeting she quickly realized that the values and goals of the organization completely aligned with her own. She immediately wanted to be a part of the SNPhAmily. This decision was further confirmed at her first conference where she was thrilled to discover so many equally energized students with the same purpose of serving. When speaking to new pharmacy students she often describes SNPhA conferences as a “palpable feeling and a mood or vibe that once experienced convinces you that you are SNPhA for life”. Within her chapter she has served as a two-year chapter delegate as well as immunization chair. In working alongside other dedicated SNPhA members she has found fulfillment and purpose in her commitment to serving the underserved.
Jamie’s passion for health care and determination to make an impact in the fight against health disparities has been reflective in her participation in SNPhA as well as her other leadership roles. During her 3rd year of the pharmacy program she became the Community Manager for the Texas Southern University Breast Cancer Clinic. This role allowed her to provide education and free mammogram screenings to uninsured and underinsured women in underserved populations. She also participated in the Maternal Child Health Internship made available by a partnership between TSU and Baylor College of Medicine. In addition to her work in serving the community Jamie served as the President of AMCP at TSU as well as a member of Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) and Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. Her belief in working towards solutions to current issues and interest in advocating for the advancement of the pharmacy profession led her to serve a two-year term on the Public Policy Committee for the Texas Pharmacy Association.
In her personal time Jamie is an avid reader, loves sports and enjoys traveling and checking off bucket list experiences. (It is important to make every moment count.) She is a huge believer in “to whom much is given, much is expected” and holds herself to that standard by bringing her full commitment and effort to all of the organizations and projects that she participates in. Jamie is interested in pursuing a career in oncology and industry pharmacy.
Jamie has been appointed to the National Office of Region III Facilitator, and is extremely excited to work closely with the other national members and Region III chapters to continue the SNPhA missions and goals by providing education and service while working towards closing gaps in healthcare disparities. She is committed to working diligently with SNPhA members to leave behind a strong and impactful L.E.G.A.C.Y.
