Public Relations Liaison
Jacarmen James is a proud native of Sandersville, Georgia, a rural town proclaimed as the “Kaolin Capital of the World”. He is currently a Pharmacy Candidate (Class of 2020) at Mercer University College of Pharmacy located in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to attending pharmacy school, he received his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Georgia Southern University (The REAL GSU) located in Statesboro, Georgia. During his undergraduate years, Jacarmen held vast positions in the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB), Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE), GSU Residential Life (resident assistant), and participated in several service related trips as an alternative breaker.
His passion for service blossomed during undergrad so much that he decided to take a gap year after graduation to serve on a larger scale. He was a dedicated AmeriCorps member of City Year Miami, where he served as a 6th grade Math Interventionist and the Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator for Georgia Jones-Ayers Middle School. City Year was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of his life as his students, mentee, and passionate supervisor pushed him to rise to the occasion daily. After his service year, Jacarmen began his pharmacy school journey.
He was first introduced to SNPhA during his pharmacy school admission interview with the past National Region V Facilitator, Meron Mezgebe. The Mercer Chapter of SNPhA consisted of devoted individuals that made Jacarmen feel like a family member of their tribe and encouraged him to strive for better. As a student pharmacist, he has served as a member of the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Phi Lambda Sigma, a Pharmacy Ambassador Captain, and Vice President of Mercer SNPhA chapter. His biggest achievement during pharmacy school was landing the position of Summer Pharmacy Intern at Mayo Clinic located in Rochester, Minnesota, in which he was chosen as 1 of 4 pharmacy students nationally for the outpatient program.
Jacarmen is delighted to serve as SNPhA’s 2019-2020 National Public Relations Liaison. His main goal is to take the brand of SNPhA in a new direction through meticulous strategies. He is dedicated to this position as SNPhA has done so much for him that it is only right to give back in a heartfelt fashion. He recognizes that he stands on the shoulders of his ancestors and his goal is to make sure that future generations will be able to do the same from his contributions to the world. For a Vision set forth Today will become Our L.E.G.A.C.Y Tomorrow.
