Region II Facilitator
Lauren Beard grew up in Saint George, South Carolina, a small, rural town located near Charleston. Lauren always had a heart for healthcare, but her love for pharmacy was fostered by a local pharmacist and pharmacy owner, Marla Bilton-Westbury. She decided to attend the University of South Carolina to complete her pre-pharmacy coursework. In 2015, Lauren was accepted to the South Carolina College of Pharmacy located on the University of South Carolina campus. Having grown up in an underserved community, Lauren immediately connected with the mission of SNPhA. She served her chapter as P1 Liaison, President-Elect, and President. At the 2017 National Convention, she participated in the Rite Aid Leadership Academy and was awarded a Rite Aid Endowed Scholarship. At the 2018 National Convention, she participated in the Kroger Clinical Skills competition and was awarded a Kroger Endowed scholarship.
Lauren is an active student at her college of pharmacy, where she is a member of APhA-ASP and Phi Lambda Sigma. She has participated in research evaluating the impact of venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. She works as a pharmacy intern at Medicine Mart Pharmacy owned by Andrew Wall located in Columbia, South Carolina. In her freetime, Lauren enjoys spending time with her husband, Jordan, and her horse, Tootsie. She also actively competes in the sport of barrel racing.
Upon graduation, Lauren plans to pursue an outpatient or ambulatory care residency due to her love of patient interaction. She plans to continue advocacy for the pharmacy profession, in order to provide the highest level of care for all patients.
Lauren is both honored and excited to serve as Region 2 Facilitator for the 2018-2019 year. She hopes to help all her chapters find “Strength in Purpose”, along with her fellow board members.
