Alyssa is a native of Durham, NC and throughout grade school participated in numerous science enrichment programs that cultivated her curiosity and developed her love for science. It was through one of these programs, NC Project SEED, where she was first introduced to the profession of pharmacy.
Following her dream to become a pharmacist, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she majored in Chemistry with a double minor in African-American studies and Spanish for the health profession. She participated in research that developed her passion for patient care and volunteered in the outpatient pharmacy at UNC Hospitals.
Upon starting pharmacy school Alyssa was immediately attracted to the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) at her school and has been involved ever since. She’s served as her chapter’s Remember the Ribbon and Chronic Kidney Disease Co-chair, on the National RTR subcommittee, and on the 2017-2018 Region I & ll Conference planning committee. In addition to her various roles within SNPhA she also served as the President of Christian Pharmacist Fellowship International, first year peer mentor, and youth leader at her church and is a proud member of Phi Lambda Sigma Epsilon Chapter and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. In her free time Alyssa loves to read, listen to music, hike, travel, and write on her blog. She loves making others around her laugh and feel inspired through words of encouragement and by sharing her faith.
She is very excited about this upcoming year to serve as the 2018-2019 National Corresponding Secretary. She is committed to reaching more patients than ever this year and helping every student grow and develop professionally. She looks forward to what SNPhA will become as students find Strength in Purpose.
