Power to End Stroke Chair
Dr. Omeka Sanders is an alum of Mercer University College of Pharmacy in Atlanta, GA where she earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree. Addressing healthcare disparities and increasing access of underserved populations to healthcare services has always been a priority for her and was a major impetus in her decision to change careers from finance to pharmacy. As such, she has been an active member of SNPhA since starting pharmacy school and is the immediate past President of the SNPhA Chapter at Mercer. In addition to SNPhA, she is a proud member of the Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society and holds active memberships in the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) and Academy of Managed Care Pharmacists (AMCP). She also completed the Veterans Affairs Learning Opportunity Residency (VALOR) and is currently a Pharmacy Intern at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Omeka is sincerely excited to serve as the National Power to End Stroke (PTES) Chair! In order to focus on the Presidential Theme of Stabilizing Our Foundation to Solidify Our Future, she seeks to focus on developing inter-chapter alliances. One of her biggest goals for the year is to create a database of PTES activities where chapters of all sizes, particularly any that may be new to the initiative, can go for ideas to implement. She would also like to see expansion of activities to include more smoking cessation programs and a greater awareness of how co-morbidities contribute to stroke. Lastly, she would like to make available to all chapters updated, consistent materials that can be used at health fairs and community events.
The little spare time that Omeka does have is spent with her loving & supportive husband and her two beautiful children. She is also an advocate for autism awareness, and enjoys exercising and living an overall healthy lifestyle. Omeka looks forward to serving with each of you and welcomes your questions or feedback.
