Operation Immunization Chair
Rachel Barr is a fourth year student pharmacist at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Pharmacy in Knoxville, Tennessee. She completed her undergraduate pre-pharmacy studies at The University of Tennessee. Her love for SNPhA began during “Pharmacy Weekend” which is held for incoming first year students. During this orientation members of the UTHSC SNPhA Chapter stood up to tell their stories about how they were able to serve the underserved. It would appear that the ideals of this organization were in line with Rachel’s passion. SNPhA captured her heart that very day. She continued to serve as service co-chair during her first year and then as vice-president of the Knoxville campus for the UTHSC SNPhA chapter during her second year. During her third year of pharmacy school she chose not to serve in any leadership positions, which would she would regret more than she knew. Consequently, with SNPhA pulling at her heartstrings, she applied for many national positions at the beginning of her fourth year and was appointed as Operation Immunization Chair.
Rachel has served in leadership roles for many other organizations within UTHSC including Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity and Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International (CPFI). She is also an active member of the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), American Society of Health- System Pharmacists (ASHP), College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP), and Imhotep Society. Due to her active role within her school of pharmacy, she was inducted into Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) at the end of her second year. She was also awarded the UTHSC College of Pharmacy Community Service Award at her third year pinning ceremony as voted upon by her classmates. This extreme honor was in great part due to the amount of service hours she put forth while serving her SNPhA chapter. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys spending time with her ever-supportive husband, cuddling her cats, and watching YouTube videos.
As National Operation Immunization Chair, Rachel is excited to connect the underserved patient populations with important pieces of information and education about vital immunizations. She is honored to serve the community by including them in their own education and empowerment. With the help of her SNPhAM she believes we can all work together to Connect the P.I.E.C.E.S.
